KATHMANDU, Aug 24: A total of 381 electric vehicles were imported in the month of Shrawan (mid-July to mid-August) alone.
According to the Department of Customs, 381 four-wheeler passenger vehicles were imported in the first month of the current FY. During the same period last year, only 110 electric vehicles (EVs) were imported. This year, the number has doubled compared to the previous FY.

A total of 274 petrol/diesel engine vehicles have been imported. Last year, 294 fuel-powered vehicles were imported. Similarly, 21,343 two-wheeler petrol engine vehicles have been imported in Shrawan, compared to only 12,000 two-wheelers imported last year. This indicates an improvement in the two-wheeler market.
Auto dealers have imported some vehicles for display keeping in view of the NADA Auto Show that is scheduled to begin from August 27 in Kathmandu. Dealers have particularly focused on importing electric vehicles. Based on bookings at NADA, dealers are preparing to import additional vehicles before Dashain festival.
Last year, over 12,000 EVs, excluding microbuses with more than 11 seats, were imported. Dealers have indicated that there is a possibility of even more electric vehicles being imported compared to the previous year.
