Impeachment Recommendation Committee collecting evidence

KATHMANDU, August 27: The Impeachment Recommendation Committee (IRC) of the House of Representatives has solicited evidence of the illegal activities done by the suspended Chief Justice Cholendra SJB Rana while in office.

The IRC has asked the concerned parties to send evidence, documents and information within three days after publishing the public notice on Friday. All concerned bodies or individuals have been requested to provide evidence, documents and information to the committee regarding the 21 impeached charges.

The IRC is also set to question suspended Chief Justice (CJ) Cholendra SJB Rana on August 31. The HoR had formed an impeachment recommendation committee on March 6 to study the impeachment motion registered against Chief Justice Cholendra SJB Rana at the federal parliament secretariat on February 13.

The IRC started working on August 16. The meeting of the committee on Wednesday decided the procedure and schedule. In the meantime, the committee also decided to understand the facts, evidence and information related to the impeachment charges. The committee has decided the procedure and schedule to prepare the impeachment report within September 5.

In the impeachment motion, it is alleged that Rana is incapable of building democracy, human rights, people's justice, rule of law, constitutional supremacy and an independent, competent, fair and responsible judiciary. Similarly, it is mentioned in the impeachment motion that within the judiciary, including the Supreme Court, distortions, inconsistencies, corruption and middlemen have entered and increased their influence during his tenure.
