KATHMANDU, May 3: The impeachment motion filed against Chief Justice (CJ) Sushila Karki has been under fire from various quarters, of late.


People from various walks of life including doctors, professors, civil society activists, students, human rights activists, representatives from Nepal Bar Association (NBA), former chief justices, and former chief election commissioners flocked to Basantapur Durbar Square to take part in a protest rally organized against the impeachment of CJ Karki on Wednesday afternoon.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr KC said that the impeachment motion registered against CJ Karki is the outcome of corruption, unaccountability and conspiracy rampant in the current ruling system of Nepal.   


Similarly, NBA Vice President Usha Malla Pathak said the impeachment motion has been filed against CJ Karki institutionally which is a blatant interference in the independent Judiciary.


Former Chief Election Commissioner Nilkantha Uprety, Former Chief  Justice Ram Kumar Shreshta, Human Rights activists Krishna Pahadi, Subodh Pyakurel, former NBA President duo Shambhu Thapa, Biswokanta Mainali, constitutional expert and former Chief Election Commissioner Nilambar Acharya, Sajha Party Coordinator Rabindra Mishra, Dr Govinda KC were among those present in the protest rally.


As many as 249 lawmakers from Nepali Congress and  CPN (Maoist Center) had filed an impeachment motion against CJ Karki on April 30, accusing her of breaching the jurisdiction of the constitution while hearing the cases.
