Ilam first Municipality with cent per cent child enrollment to school

ILAM, Sept 12 (RSS): The Ilam Municipality in Ilam district has become the first Municipality in the country where all the children of school going age are enrolled in the school. 

The Municipality having 12 wards in it have been successful in admitting all the school going age children to the school, according to Mayor Mahesh Basnet. 

Mayor Basnet shared that the on-site visits and monitoring were done to ensure that no children from the Dalit, underprivileged and impoverished communities were deprived of enrollment in the school. 

Basnet further said that the declaration of cent per cent enrollment was made following the recommendations of the respective Ward Chairpersons in the Municipality. 

According to him, there are a total of 54 community schools totaling 5,031 students in the Municipality and among them the number of primary schools stands at 31, lower-secondary schools at 10 and secondary school at 13. 

The Mayor underscored awareness orientation, interaction programmes and the like among the parents for them to retain their children in the schools. 

District Education Officer Homnath Bhandari spoke of the need for promoting the reading culture among the students as well as the children of school going age to achieve cent per cent literacy and to let the learning culture thrive in the Municipality.
