KATHMANDU, Feb 15: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dhiraj Pratap Singh has said the police personnel should be in ready position at any time for maintaining law and order.

Issuing directives to the chief of the Kathmandu Valley Police Office, Ranipokhari, and the offices under it at the Police Headquarters today, he said the alertness of the police force is significant in preventing criminal incidents.

IGP Singh also urged the police office chiefs to fully carry out their responsibilities and directed the Valley police offices to remain in ready position deducing the possible untoward incidents by making a review of recent incidents.

Reiterating that it is the police force alone which is the institution that provides a sense of the state's presence to the general public, IGP Singh said, "The police should be alert and be in ready position to tackle the possible incidents that might take place in the coming days by making an assessment of the recent incidents. They should not hesitate to use force as permitted by the law."

The police should not escape from their main responsibility of maintaining law and order, he reiterated.

Stating that the traffic checking should be made more systematic, IGP Singh called on all police personnel to fulfill their duty in a highly professional manner by adopting a policy of zero tolerance against opaque practices in financial matters. He stressed conducting the arrest of fugitives on a campaign basis and to be more focused on crime investigation with utter seriousness.
