KATHMANDU, Jan 6: Nepali Congress central member Binod Chaudhary has said that he was elected a central member of the party by its 14th general convention after completing the entire process in accordance with the party's statute.

He also said that it was undemocratic and apolitical to question whether it was lawful after losing the election which was carried out through the legal process of the general convention.

“After the registration of candidates, the election committee had duly provided time to object. If anyone thought that I was ineligible, then why was my candidacy not challenged at that time?” Chaudhary questioned, adding: “Such behavior is not expected in a democratic party like the Nepali Congress.”

Chaudhary was elected a central member from the Madhesi quota (open) by the recently-concluded 14th general convention of the Nepali Congress. He received 2,206 votes- the second highest number. Subhash Chandra Yadav of Siraha, who was contesting for the same post, was defeated. Three weeks after the defeat, Yadav has questioned the statute.

“I have been elected as a central member with the approval of the promising Nepali Congress cadres. Similarly, every candidate had the right to be elected. However, it is also an insult to the general members to humiliate the elected after losing the election,” he further added.
