KATHMANDU, April 28: Hari Man Shrestha, an expert who predicted that Nepal has potential to produce 83,000 Megawatts hydroelectricity, passed away on Thursday at the age of 84.

Many Nepalis have been reading and following his prediction without knowing who made the calculation and on what basis. This was the finding of Shrestha's research, which he had done 51 years ago after returning from Moscow, where he had completed his PHD.

He had researched about 'hydropower potentiality in Nepal' in 1966 as a part of PHD thesis from Moscow Electrical Engineering Institute. His research findings are rarely challenged in more than 5 decades time.

"His findings are not challenged so far. New researchers have done their research at regional level based on his findings," said hydro expert Khadga Bahadur Bista.

According to family sources, Shrestha had sustained injury after falling in his own bed room three days ago and was rushed to hospital.

Shrestha was cremated at Pashupati Aryaghat on Thursday. He is survived by wife, a son and three daughters.
