HURPES establishes five awards

KATHMANDU, Feb 14: The Human Rights and Peace Society (HURPES) has set up five new awards, taking the total awards to eight so far.

The recently established awards are late Radha Devi Dahal, late Shree Prasad Dahal, late Narayan Dahal, late Jogmaya Baral and late Bhumi Prasad Baral Shrastha Saugat.

Under the late Bhumi Prasad Baral Shrastha Saugat, five litterateurs contributing to various steams of Nepali literature are honoured every year with Rs 15,000 and an appreciation letter.

To establish the awards, social worker Badri Prasad Pahadi of Biratnagar, spouse of late Radha Devi Dahal, contributed Rs 400,000, and Ram Krishna Baral and Achuyt Baral, sons of Bhumi Prasad Baral and Jogmaya Baral, Rs 300,000, said the Society's executive president Uttam Pudasaini.

To choose persons for the awards, a selection committee led by president Pudasaini has been formed. Members of the committee are the Society's senior vice president Gobinda Khanal, vice presidents Bishnu Prasad Chapagain and Renuka Poudel, general secretary Sushil Basnet and coordinator of the discipline committee Dik Prasad Ghimire and treasurer Ram Krishna Baral.
