MUGU, Dec 29: Visitors usually enjoy the scenic view around Rara Lake. But, they have been stunned to see growing number of dead fishes floated in the lake for the past week.
People out for a relaxing stroll around Rara have also been counting the dead fish, especially trout.
When the bully is the boss
The dead fishes have polluted the lake water. "The dead fishes have been floating in the water," Birkha Bahadur Rokaya, a local resident said.
Lal Bahadur Bhandari, an official at the Rara National Park said that the flow of contaminated water into the lake and recent heavy snowfall might have resulted in deaths of fishes. "We are launching a probe into the incident," Bhandari said.
Following the incident, people living around Rara Lake have stopped consuming fish. Rara Lake lies at an altitude of 2,990 m (9,810 ft) above sea level.
