KATHMANDU, Oct 9: The Human Rights and Peace Society staged a protest in front of Sheetal Niwas (Office of the President of Nepal) on Monday.
The demonstration was held against the misuse of the right of the president to pardon convicts as per Article 276 of the Constitution and to demand investigation into the possible financial manipulation from the bottom to the top while pardoning the jail terms of inmates.

During the demonstration, the police arrested Human Rights and Peace Society’s Founding Chairman Krishna Pahadi, Chairman Ram Krishna Baral, Advisor Uttam Pudasaini, General Secretary Renuka Paudel, Treasurer Kiran Dhakal, Secretary Chandramani Banjara, central member Diwakar Pudasaini, Kathmandu branch President Bhagwan Pudasaini, rights activists Rita Adhikari, Madhu Pudasaini and Laxman Pudasaini. A total of 11 people have been arrested and kept at the Metropolitan Police Circle, Maharajgunj.
The Human Rights and Peace Society has announced that the next protest will be held in front of the Prime Minister's Office, Singha Durbar (South Gate) on October 13.
