House, shops damaged in Balkumari fire

KATHMANDU, Nov 21: An electrical short circuit in a private residence at Balkumari, Lalitpur, damaged four houses on Wednesday night. A nearby fitness center known as 'Zumba Dance Center' was burned down.

KATHMANDU, Nov 21: An electrical short circuit in a private residence at Balkumari, Lalitpur, damaged four houses on Wednesday night. A nearby fitness center known as 'Zumba Dance Center' was burned down.


According to the Metropolitan Police Department, Koteshwor, the fire broke out in a two-story building of Swabhiman Shrestha near CCRC College in Balkumari due to an electrical short circuit. Assistant Head Constable Rudra Prasad Gautam said that the fire destroyed ‘Dagera Pharmacy,’ owned by Bhojraj Bhatta on the first floor of the house.

Police reported that along with Shrestha's house, a Paan shop and a momo shop were also consumed by the fire. The details of the damage are yet to be confirmed.


The fire was doused after an hour with the help of five fire extinguishers. To extinguish the fire, three fire trucks from Kathmandu and two from Lalitpur, along with police personnel, were deployed.
