KATHMANDU, Oct 24: The parliamentary International Relations and Labor Committee (IRLC) has suspected the role of the officials of Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) behind recent rise in cancellation and delay of domestic as well as international flights of the national flag carrier.

The committee has sought action against officials who collude with private airlines to delay or cancel flights of the NAC.

Noting that the repeated delay and cancellation of flights was eroding the credibility of the national flag carrier, the parliamentary committee has instructed the government to probe into NAC officials' possible collusion with private airlines and take action against those found guilty.

"Apart from eroding the credibility of the national flag carrier, the delay and cancellation of at the last minute has been causing huge financial loss to the NAC," reads the decision taken by the meeting.

"In this context, the committee decides to instruct the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation to probe into the officials of the corporation who have been colluding with private airlines to erode credibility and take legal action against them.”

The committee has also directed the Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation to install Xray machine and CCTV camera at all airports as soon as possible. The decision was taken keeping in view the security sensitivity of the airports, according to the statement issued by the committee.

The committee also directed the government to provide Wi-Fi service at airports, arrange seating arrangements outside terminals for passengers' companion and take necessary initiative for cleanliness in airports.

In the wake of frequent delays and cancellations of NAC flights, the committee has directed the government to arrange adequate spare parts, pilots and other staffers so that flights are not cancelled because of these factors. It has also asked the ministry and the NAC to prepare its business plan and purchase aircraft through fast track process.
