KATHMANDU, Jan 19: The Impeachment Recommendation Committee (IRC) of the Parliament on Wednesday formed a sub-committee to carry on with the impeachment motion of former CIAA chief Lokman Singh Karki.

The IRC has included Rewati Raman Bhandari of CPN-UML, Ram Narayan Bidari of CPN (Maoist Center) and Deepak Kuinkel of Nepali Congress as the members of the sub-committee, entrusted with the responsibility of looking into the cases related to Karki and provide recommendation to the House committee for further action. The impeachment proposal had been put on hold following the Supreme Court's verdict on Karki's case. Karki is in Canada now.

The sub-committee will carry out investigation into the works done by Karki including interference into the medical education. The sub-committee is assigned to submit the report to the IRC within 15 days. The sub-committee can also summon Karki for recording his statement. The kind of punishment against Karki will be determined on the basis of the sub-committee's report.

The IRC will submit the report to the parliament within 30 days for the final decision.
As many as 107 lawmakers had registered an impeachment motion in the Legislature-Parliament against Karki on October 30, 2016. In the meantime, the SC on January 8 gave its verdict on a writ petition against Karki's appointment and declared that Karki was ineligible to get appointment in the position.
