Impeachment proposal on hold as House meet postponed

KATHMANDU, Oct 20:  The meeting of the Legislature-Parliament scheduled for 1 am today has been postponed without tabling the impeachment proposal against CIAA chief Karki. 

Today’s parliament meeting was supposed to dwell on the impeachment proposal registered against Karki in the Parliament yesterday.

However, Speaker Onsari Gharti Magar adjourned the meeting citing special circumstances.

Meanwhile, Speaker Onsari’s official visit to Geneva has also been canceled citing poltical reasons.

Onsari was scheduled to leave for Geneva on Friday. 

As many as 157 lawmakers (107 from CPN-UML and 50 from CPN (Maoist Center)   registered an impeachment motion against Karki at the Parliament Secretariat on Wednesday evening.

With the impeachment motion registered in the Parliament, Karki has been suspended from his post in line with the Article 101 (6) of the Constitution. 

If the motion is passed by the two-thirds majority of the total number of the members of the House of Representatives, Karki shall be relieved of his post. 

However, the ruling Nepali Congress, the largest party represented in the Parliament, has not come up yet with an official decision on the impeachment issue.
