KATHMANDU, Dec 20: The Social Justice and Human Rights Committee (SJHRC) of the Legislature-Parliament started taking suggestions from today from stakeholders and experts on the proposed bill related to the National Dalit Commission (NDC).

The committee has also formed a sub-committee to speed up the process in approving the bill.

Committee president Sushil Kumar Shrestha said wide and detailed discussions were underway on the bill in a bid to give justice to the Dalit community that had been suppressed for centuries.

Joint secretary of the Ministry of Federal Affairs and Local Development Hari Prasad Poudel said there is possibility for making some corrections to the draft of the bill prepared as per the spirit of the constitution after consultations with Ministries of Law and Finance and the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers.

He also stressed the need for making a wide range of corrections and an amendment to the proposed bill as it has been brought without much regard to the spirit of the constitution.

Also on the occasion, advocate Shyam Kumar Bishwokarma pointed out that the bill fails to ensure the representation of women within the Dalit community. RSS
