Host Jhapa into final

DAMAK, Mar 10: Host team Jhapa XI has entered the final of Jhapa Gold Cup defeating national league outfit Ruslan Three Star Club in a tie-breaker in first semifinal match played at Domalal Rajbanshi Stadium, Birtamode on Friday.

The match went to penalty shoot out after both teams stayed 0-0 stalemate in 90 minutes. Plenty of chances were created from both sides only to be denied by some astute defending and goalkeeping. 
The best moment of the match came when Jhapa defender Dilen Loktam made a sensational goal-line clearance on Three Star striker Buddha Chemjong’s shot who dribbled past the Jhapa goalie in the 67th minute. 

Jhapa’s Karna Limbu, Bhusan Subba, Captain Yogesh Gurung and Devendra Tamang converted their shots to secure host team’s place in final with a 4-3 score line.

Three Star’s Rajin Dhimal, Bijay Dhimal and Nirajan Khadka scored but Sunil Bal and Budhha Chemjong failed to hit target from the penalty spot. Jhapa bagged the prize amount of Rs 600,000 after reaching the final.

Adjudged man of the match, Jhapa’s defender Devendra Tamang received Rs 25,000. Jhapa head coach Prabesh Katwal credited the hard-work players for the win. Similarly, Three Star head coach Meghraj KC claimed the home team had an advantage of home ground and attributed it as one of the reasons of defeat.

Jhapa will face either Laxmi Hyundai Manang Marsyangdi or Tribhuvan Army Club, who are set to face in second semifinal match in same ground on Saturday.

The winner of the Gold Cup will take Rs 1.25 million home. Similarly, the runner-up will be awarded with cash prize of Rs 600,000.
