KATHMANDU, Aug 11: A meeting of the House of Representatives today accepted a proposal tabled seeking the consideration of the "National Sports Development Bill-2075 BS." In the session, Minister for Youth and Sports Jagat Bahadur Bishwakarma presented the proposal.
Earlier, lawmakers spoke the need of connecting sports with tourism while holding a discussion on it. Dila Sangraula, seeking an amendment bill, proposed to establish a 'sports academy' in each Province. She was of the view that the development of the sports sector was possible if the Province took responsibility for players.

Amresh Kumar Singh gave an idea of revising the bill so that it could establish sports as a necessary tool for stress management while Prem Suwal was of the view that National Sports Council and Olympic Committee should not have a parallel status legally. Surya Prasad Pathak described the bill as an 'election manifesto'. The sports issues should be incorporated into the university curriculum.
Rangamati Shahi said she saw numerous faults in the document, warranting its improvement while Bimala Bishwakarma said the provision of the Sports Welfare Fund was positive, suggesting that the Fund should include the retired sportsmen.
Asha Kumari BK, Khagaraj Adhikari, Rajendra Kumar KC, Dibyamani Rajbhandari, Devendra Raj Kandel, Padma Narayan Chaudhary, Sher Bahadur Tamang, Ram Kumari Jhankri, Tejulal Chaudhary and Nava Raj Silwal sought the definition of national sports. In response, the Minister pledged to incorporate feedback achieved from the discussion in the bill before its endorsement.
