Homestay transforming Kulung

Homestay transforming Kulung

It has been a couple of years, lodging and sharing a residence with the locals while traveling has become prominent. Known as homestay, the act has also equally benefitted locals to generate income.

Taking an example, Kulung, Byas Municipality, Tanahu has become a hub for homestay. The tourists often feel better to localize with people than spending money on hotels. Thankfully, it has also helped the people to have good earning. Normally, the price for homestay is Rs 700 per night.

The guests are also entertained. Locals perform kauraha, jhyaure, Krishna charitra and lakhey naach to the visitor. “I think showing those performances help to preserve those cultures from the extinction,” commented Nanimaya Aaley, the chairperson of Aama Samuha.

Before Kulung got the limelight, the locals had light knowledge about cleanliness. However, it has changed now, said Ritamaya Thapa, the chairperson of Kulung Community Homestay. “Since the number of homestays got increased, the places here are quite well-managed. The people have focused mainly on cleanliness.”

Thapa further commented, “We form a group and clean the place twice a month. The degradable wastages are being used as compost. Likewise, we have worked to plant flowers and trees in the area.”

The managing homestay has also helped the youths in Kulung. The place once having many youths to foreign employment has drastically changed. The workers who were once in the foreign nations have returned home for something productive. One of the locals, Bikash Ale Magar said, “I come from foreign employment to start farming in my home. I am into poultry farming now.”
