KATHMANDU, Aug 13: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MOHA) has directed all 77 District Administration Offices (DAOs) in the country to suspend issuing ‘vehicle pass’ being distributed so far for inter-district travel.

In a circular addressed to both the DAOs and Chief District Officers (CDOs) on Wednesday, the MoHA has directed to suspend issuing vehicle permits starting Thursday in view of the rising cases of Coronavirus (COVID-19). This directive will remain effective until further notice.

Earlier, the Home Ministry had authorized DAOs to distribute passes for essential services.

Officials at the MoHA said the vehicle permits issued earlier will also become invalid starting Friday. This comes in the wake of COVID-19 Crisis Management Center (CCMC) meeting recently taking decisions to effectively control inter-district as well as cross-border movement of people from India in order to curb further spread of COVID-19.

Mayors of Kathmandu Valley had earlier asked the government to ban entry of people in Kathmandu ‘for the time being’ as the transmission rate of COVID-19 has lately seen a spike. As many as 138 new cases of the COVID-19 were detected in the country’s national capital on Wednesday alone.

With 484 new cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours, Nepal's COVID-19 tally reaches 24,432. Nepal's COVID-19 death toll climbs to 91 with eigh new cases of deaths reported on Wednesday.
