KATHMANDU, March 15: Minister for Home Affairs, Bal Krishna Khand has urged consumer rights activists to speak in favor of the Millenium Challenge Corporation (MCC) compact agreement which was passed through parliament with an interpretive declaration. 

Stating that the project was passed through parliament by the government for the benefit of consumers, he urged the consumer rights activists to speak in favor of the MCC agreement. Speaking at a program organized in Kathmandu on the occasion of the World Consumer Rights Day, Minister Khand argued that since only the countries that form the government through press freedom, protection of human rights, and elections could seek the MCC grant, there is no question that the project would not be in the interest of the country and the people. “MCC is a project to supply electricity to every household in Nepal through transmission lines. How can the project not be in favor of the country?” Khand questioned. 

He also pointed out the misconception of the US army entering the country and asserted that such a thing will never happen. 

He also clarified that the government has taken a policy of increasing the consumption of electricity and replacing the import of petroleum products.
