KATHMANDU, Feb 16: Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has announced the decision to form a special police "desk" to address issues of caste-based discrimination and untouchability.


The minister made this announcement after receiving a memorandum from a delegation led by Lok Bahadur Bishwakarma, the coordinator of the Joint Political Dalit Struggle Committee, an umbrella body of Dalit organizations in the country, which focuses on issues like caste-based discrimination.

"I will establish a desk at the police headquarters and instruct such desks be set up in all 77 districts," said the home minister.


He emphasized the government's commitment to eradicating caste discrimination. "During the drafting of the constitution, I advocated for ensuring the fundamental rights of all communities. This was agreed upon by all political parties. I remain committed to eliminating caste-based discrimination," he added.
