It is a daunting task for many of us to utilize the weekend properly. Some spend their weekend by going out. But there are some who tend to stay at home. And the majority of us, who plan to stay home, probably spend their time binge-watching movies. And if your binge-watching is accompanied by popcorn and tea/coffee, then there is no doubt that you had a perfect weekend.

Hence, this weekend My City has listed the best Hollywood movies based on journalism:

Spotlight(2015)

 

Director: Tom McCarthy

Stars: Mark Ruffalo, Michael Keaton, Rachel McAdams

If you looking for the best movie based on journalism, ‘Spotlight’ is top-notch. Based on a true incident, the movie depicts how a group of five investigative journalists from the Boston Globe exposed the huge scandal of child abuse by several Catholic Roman priests in Boston. Released on November 6, 2015, the movie earned two Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay.

 

The Post (2017)

Director: Steven Spielberg

Stars: Tom Hanks, Meryl Streep, Sarah Paulson

With a lineup of star-studded casts, the movie deals with how Katharine Graham, the first female publisher in American mainstream newspaper published the Pentagon Papers that expose the secret of US government regarding Vietnam War in Washington Post. Legendary American Spielberg who has also directed notable movies including ‘Jaw’, Catch Me If You Can’, ‘Back to the Future’ successfully captured the chaos of the characters.

 

Shattered Glass (2003)

Director: Billy Ray

Stars: Hayden Christensen, Peter Sarsgaard, Chloe Sevigny

‘Shattered Glass’ is unlike ‘Spotlight’ which is based on Stephen Glass, a reporter at The New Republic. The movie shows how Stephen--popular reporter in mid-1990s journalism career was ended after his numerous fabricated news articles were exposed. Though the movie didn’t impress the box-office, it turned into a critically acclaimed movie.
