Talking with media persons at party head office Parisdanda, he said that the cabinet also should be expanded after the change at the HLPC.
“Going by talks with the agitating groups, I can say that they will participate in the election. We should be flexible about increasing the number of proportional representation seats,” said Sapkota, adding that the election could be held if an environment for election was cultivated.
He added that there was no alternative to elections. Reviewing the then CA, he claimed that the political parties made a mistake over the role of the CA from the very beginning.
“The CA was dissolved without holding its last meeting. That was a mistake and we should commit ourselves not to repeat such mistakes again,” added Sapkota, claming that the people would vote for federalist and progressive forces. He also said the then CA failed to give a constitution as there was no absolute majority.
“We appeal for a two-third majority for the federalists,” said Sapkota, claiming that the CA would be successful this time.
He also informed that the upcoming central committee meeting would set out its platform for the election and the party would start the election campaign. The meeting has been called for June 27.
The party has already formed an election mobilization committee under the leadership of party Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal.
“The CC meeting will work out the entire agenda for the election. The candidates selection committee has started the selection process,” he added. He also claimed that CC meeting will be able to form a new standing committee and new politburo and also give full shape to the CC.
“It is not true that there is dispute over forming the standing committee and politburo and giving full shape to the CC,” said Sapkota, arguing that it was natural for there to be discussions on the selection of the leadership.
The UCPN (Maoist) failed to give full shape to its CC at its general convention and the CC meeting has been postponed for long. The expansion of the CC and number of office-bearers and the formation of the new standing committee and politburo have been pending due to dispute over power sharing among factions led by Dahal and Vice-chairmen duo Baburam Bhattarai and Narayan Kaji Shrestha.
