DHANGADHI, Feb 7: The Dipayal High Court has refused to issue an interim order to release lawmaker Arun Kumar Chaudhary of Nagarik Unmukti Party. He had earlier filed a writ petition against Kailali District Court’s verdict that found him guilty in an arson case.
Information Officer Nar Bahadur Negi said that a single bench of High Court Judge Arjun Prasad Koirala refused to issue an interim order and instead issued a show cause order in the name of the District Court, District Public Prosecutor's Office and District Police Office Kailali.
According to Negi, Chaudhary has been ordered to appear before the court in person within 15 days.
The court will decide whether to issue an interim order or not after holding discussion with both the plaintiff and the defendant, said information officer Negi, adding that both sides have been called for discussion on February 12.
The District Court, Kailali had slapped a jail term of six months and a fine of Rs 800,000 on three people including MP Chaudhary in an arson case 13 years ago. Chaudhary, who was absconding after the court verdict, was arrested by the police a few days ago from Banke. Chaudhary is currently in Kailali Jail.
