Kathmandu, June 14: A helipad is set to be constructed in the major administrative center of the country, Singha Durbar. According to the Singha Durbar Secretariat Reconstruction Committee, it has been proposed to construct a helipad on the Singha Durbar premises to be used for special guests in case of emergency and if necessary.

“We also have a history of fire in Singha Durbar, the helipad can be used in case of any natural calamities and emergencies” said Machcha Kaji Maharjan, the Chief of Secretariat reconstruction committee.

According to Maharjan, some changes have been made in the master plan to make the Singhadbar area systematic and managed. The construction of the helipad has been proposed in the changed master plan. He said that a study is being carried out to find a suitable location to build the helipad.

According to the Reconstruction Committee, the changes are in their final stage and they will start implementing it as soon as the Council of Ministers approves of their plan. After the construction is completed, the Parliament Secretariat will be shifted to the Parliament Secretariat building. Similarly, the Ministry of Health will be shifted to the current building of the Parliament Secretariat and the Ministry of Urban Development will be shifted to the building currently housing the Ministry of Homes Affairs.

It has been proposed to construct two separate new buildings for the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The parking will be provided underground in the building to be constructed for the Ministry of Home     Affairs and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Electricity, telephone and other wires on the Singha Durbar premises will be kept underground as well to enhance the beauty of Singha Durbar.

"There will be underground parking in the new building inside Singha Durbar and we will keep open space as much as possible," Maharjan said. Singha Durbar will be restructured with a new design in which attractive gardens and parks will be built on  the premises of the government seat.

Of the three organs of the state, only the executive is currently in Singhadbar. Thus, the Ministry of Urban Development has prepared a new design of Singha Durbar so that the judiciary and the legislature can also be within the Singha Durbar area. An employee of the committee said that the secretariat and office of the legislative, executive and judiciary will be set up on Singha Durbar premises.
