KATHMANDU, May 27: Heavy snowfall in the Sagarmatha region has affected the climbers as some of them had to return after making it as far as South Col.
According to sources at Everest Base Camp (EBC), climbers who were on their way to scale Mount Sagarmatha had to return to the camp as the weather started deteriorating from last night. The Nepal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) has directed the authorities concerned to call back mountaineers on expeditions as the weather is expected to remain the same for a few more days. But some climbers are willing to wait until the weather becomes appropriate to make the ascent.
Sources at the EBC said that some mountaineers while on their way to the camp after scaling Sagarmatha have sustained minor injuries. But the rescue helicopter has not been able to fly to the location because of bad weather.
