KATHMANDU, June 19: The hearing on the writ petition against the government's decision to promote Dhiraj Pratap Singh to the post of Inspector General of Police (IGP) is taking place today.
Advocate Meghraj Pokhrel argued on behalf of AIG Bishwaraj Pokharel last Monday and the next hearing on the case was scheduled for today. The case will be heard by a bench of Acting Chief Justice Deepak Kumar Karki and Justice Kumar Chudal on Sunday.
The lawyers pleading on behalf of Pokharel are scheduled to lay claims on how the decision to make Dhiraj Pratap Singh the IGP is illegal. Similarly, public prosecutors will also debate to defend the government's decision.
AIG Bishwaraj Pokharel had filed a writ petition at the apex court alleging that his junior was made IGP. The writ petition states that Pokharel was eligible for the promotion but the government promoted a junior contrary to the provisions of the Police Act and regulations.
