KATHMANDU, Jan 17: Hearing on writ petitions filed in the Supreme Court against the dissolution of the parliament will continue in the Constitutional Bench from today.

The hearing is set to continue today as justices assigned to the Constitutional Bench-led by Chief Justice Cholendra Shamsher JB Rana decided to hold a continuous hearing on the case on Sunday citing lack of time in the constitutional court on Friday. Other members of the bench include Justices Bishwoambar Prasad Shrestha, Anil Kumar Sinha, Sapana Malla and Tej Bahadur KC.

The court on January 14 had decided that the dispute would be heard in the Constitutional Bench or in the plenary session. As 11 out of 13 writ petitioners filed a supplementary petition demanding that the matter be heard in a full bench, there was a long debate and discussion whether to conduct hearing on the writs in the constitutional bench or the full bench.

On December 25, the Constitutional Bench of the Supreme Court issued an order in the name of the government to submit a written reply with reasons to dissolve the House of Representatives. As per the order, the Office of the President, the Office of the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers, and the Speaker have already submitted a written reply through the Office of the Attorney General.
