Advocates Raviraj Basaula, Yuvraj Poudel, among others, filed a writ petition questioning the election of Lamichhane, who is also the chairman of the Rastriya Swatantra Party, to the House of Representatives.

The petitioners have demanded the cancellation of the position of Home Minister Lamichhane, stating that he established a political party, contested the House of Representatives election and became a member of parliament without acquiring the Nepali citizenship.
