KATHMANDU, Feb 24: The government has added 619 more deaths linked to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) infection in a single day. With this the total number of COVID-19 fatalities in the country has climbed to 2,684.

According to Dr Jageshwor Gautam, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP), the data was updated based on the data collected by the ministry and COVID-19 Crisis Management Center (CCMC).

The data unveiled by the ministry on Tuesday showed that as many as 2,065 people died of COVID-19 in the country.

Republica had earlier in November reported that the real number of COVID-19 deaths was far higher than presented by the ministry as the government’s data collection is full of flaws. Sources at the CCMC had told Republica that the record maintained by the health ministry was full of flaws, and the actual COVID-19-related deaths could go much higher than the data published by the Health ministry.

With the latest update by the ministry, the COVID-19 death rate in the country has jumped to 0.98 percent of the total infections of 273,760 recorded as of Wednesday afternoon.

Nepal had reported the first COVID-19 death on May 16 earlier last year.

Nepal adds 94 new cases

Nepal confirmed as many as 94 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday. The cases were confirmed from among the 3,692 polymerase chain reaction tests carried out across the country in the past 24 hours.
