Health awareness and checkup program

Health awareness and checkup program

KATHMANDU, August 26: A team of doctors, previously students at Kathmandu-based Nepal Medical College, recently conducted a health awareness and free checkup program at the Dhurmus Suntali Integrated Musahar Model Village in Bardibas, Mahottari.

According to a press statement, the team successfully conducted the camp with support from UK-based South East Regional Tamu Dhee. They conducted health checkup of about 200 locals. Among the total patients, about 100 were children.

Dr Nishchal Dhakal, Nepal coordinator of the program, said most children visiting the camp suffered from skin problems, while adults sought solution to alcohol-related woes.

The team of doctors also distributed medicines to the sick and a first aid box containing basic medications each for every house in the community during the program.

Participating doctor, Dr Subina Gautam, stressed on the need for awareness on family planning as high rate of pregnancy with short birth spacing was observed in the area.

The program concluded after a small group interactive health awareness session for children and women separately. The UK coordinator for the program, Dr Sudarshan Gurung, said he and his team were willing to come again for the community. He said that the team could take this program as a health need assessment program and come in the future with long-term health commitment for the community.
