Cristiano Ronaldo turns 35 today. Without a doubt, Ronaldo is one of the best and influential athletes of all time. Winning five Ballon d’Or awards, Ronaldo is also the first player to win five UEFA Championship League and four European Golden Shoes in the history of football.

 

To mark his 35th birthday today, My City’s team compiled five interesting facts that you may not know about him:

 

#1 Cristiano Ronaldo named after US President Ronald Reagan

Cristiano Ronaldo’s full name is Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro which was inspired by actor and 40th American president Ronald Reagan. His father was a great admirer of Reagan.

#2 Nearly left football at the age of 15

Ronaldo had to nearly step out of football realm before he started a professional football career. At the age of 15, he was diagnosed with a Tachycardia—condition of heart rate that is faster than normal. However, he underwent treatment and fight over the disease.

#3 Almost wore Liverpool shirt

Before heading to Manchester United from Sporting Lisbon, Liverpool FC was keen on signing Ronaldo in 2003. However, due to a lack of funds and interest, LFC could not sign Ronaldo.

#4 Most followed on Instagram

With his stardom, Ronaldo became the first person to reach 200 million followers on Instagram most followed person on Instagram.

#5 Expelled from school

Ronaldo is often seen angry on the pitch. This usually had led him to get off from the pitch during a match. Even in the past, his anger had cost him a lot. One of the prime examples; he was expelled from the school as he threw a chair at his teacher because he was angry.
