Gurung appointed acting chief of EC

KATHMANDU, Nov. 7: Commissioner of the Election Commission (EC), Dolakh Bahadur Gurung, has been appointed as the Acting Chief of EC as the Acting Chief Commissioner Nilkantha Upreti retired by completing his term from today.



According to Spokesperson of EC, Sharada Prasad Trital, Gurung has been appointed as Acting Chief Commissioner of the EC on seniority basis as per the Remuneration of Constitutional Body Officials Act as Upreti informed the office about his retirement. [break]Gurung will assume office as the Acting Chief from Thursday.



Upreti had been appointed the acting chief of EC after the former Chief Commissioner Bhojraj Pokhrel retired from his post in Jestha, 2066 B.S. Gurung will look after the works as Acting Chief Commissioner of the EC until mid- January.



The Interim Constitution-2063 BS has a provision of a Chief Commissioner and four Commissioners in the EC, but has now only one Acting Chief Election Commissioner and a Commissioner Ayodhi Prasad Yadav and both will also retire from their posts completing the term in mid- January itself.
