KATHMANDU, March 8: The government on Monday urged the South Korean authorities to allow the Nepali workers who have already been selected for different jobs in South Korea and are waiting to fly to the country to join their jobs there.

In a meeting with Kim Un Dok, representative from Human Resources Development Service of Korea, Minister for Labor, Employment and Social Security, Krishna Kumar Shrestha said a large number of Nepalis have passed the Korean language and skill proficiency tests under the Employment Permit System (EPS) of the Korean government and waiting for their turn to go to Korea for work.

Currently, the Korean government is allowing only chartered flights to take the Korea-bound Nepali workers. Minister Shrestha requested the Korean authorities to resume the regular flights from Nepal.

At present, South Korea is witnessing a massive spike in cases of the COVID-19 pandemic. Meanwhile, the Korean counterpart said that the authority there is reluctant to carry a large number of workers through regular flights due to the mandatory provision of quarantine stay for foreign visitors.
