KATHMANDU, May 6: The Department of Foreign Employment (DoFE) has decided to suspend issuing work permits to foreign job seekers with effect from Friday.

Releasing a public notice on Thursday, the Foreign Employment Office said the DoFE has directed not to issue new work permits for foreign employment until further notice. In the wake of the government suspending both the domestic and international flights, the DoFE has taken this move.

In a bid to check the spread of the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, the government has suspended the movement via air-route till May 14. The online access for renewal of the work permits, however, has been given continuity, the department has said in its notice.

Last year, the government suspended issuing work permits on March 12 as part of the measures taken by the government to curb the spread of the coronavirus, which was reopened only after six months.
