Govt to provide Rs 500,000 to ill player

KATHMANDU, July 13: The government will provide Rs 500,000 to Dinesh Baniya, former national volleyball player who is treating double-kidney failure, on Monday.



Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal will hand over the cheque to the player at his office on Monday afternoon, according to Bishnu Rijal, PM’s press advisor.



Baniya, 41, is undergoing treatment at the Blue Cross Nursing Home, Tripureshwar.



A number of politicians including United CPN (Maoist) chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, CPN-UML general secretary Jhalanath Khanal and Nepali Congress’ Ram Chandra Poudel participated in the charity football match organized to support Baniya on Saturday.



Baniya represented Nepal in Colombo in 1991 and in Dhaka in 1993 in the SAF Games.
