KATHMANDU, Sept 6: The government has made plans to make a national policy for differently abled people.


Speaking at a program organized by Amulya Foundation in Lalitpur on Tuesday, Dilli Ram Sharma, secretary at the Ministry of Women, Children and Senior Citizens, stated that preparations have been started to make the national policy for women, children and senior citizen and that a round of discussion has been going on in this regard.

Minister Sharma committed to moving forward along with the decision made during two days of workshop held on the issue of inclusive disaster risk reduction. Secretary Sharma said that the policy is going to be made targeting differently abled people as they are more prone to disaster risks. Sharma further stated that the stakeholders concerned will collaborate with national and international organizations for the development and rights, interests of women, children, senior citizens, disabled people's rights, interests, their good life, as well as make effective implementation of plans and designs to give good results.


Sharma said, “We have learnt many things due to the earthquake of 2015 and the Covid-19 pandemic. This has caused trouble most particularly to women, children, senior citizens and differently abled people. It has also taught us that we should revise and improve our policies, plans, programs, formulation and implementation, research and evaluation. The government will be involved in the collaboration to provide good results for the rights, welfare and planning program, policy formulation, effective implementation of the good life of differently abled people.”


In addition to that, amid the program, a handbook with the information on differently abled inclusive disaster risk reduction was also released by Pallab Panta, secretary of Atullya Foundation.
