Govt to endorse public-private-partnership model also in infrastructure projects

KATHMANDU, May 18: The government has planned to involve the private sector in construction of infrastructure projects through the budget for 2022/23.

Announcing the Principle and Priority of the Appropriation Bill 2022 in parliament on Tuesday, Finance Minister Janardan Sharma said the government will be implementing a public-private-partnership model also in the construction of national level infrastructure projects. Sharma also expressed commitment to complete development of national pride projects and expand and upgrade main highways on time.

The Appropriation Bill is considered as the main budget document, which allows the government to implement budgetary programmes and utilize funds as per the allocations made. Sharma said the government will improve the existing taxation system to increase the contribution of internal taxes in the government revenue.

To utilize public borrowing in the national priority sector, productive sector and capital formation and check corruption to ensure good governance will be the utmost priority of the next year’s budget, according to Sharma. The government will be announcing the budget for 2022/23 on May 29.
