KATHMANDU, Jan 10: The government has decided to distribute relief materials worth Rs 22.2 million to the general public affected by the cold weather in 22 districts of the tarai region.  


The Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) took the decision to this effect following instruction from Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba. As per the decision, the MoHA will distribute blankets, logs and warm clothes worth Rs 1 million to the locals of each of the 22 affected districts, informed MoHA Secretary Mohan Krishna Sapkota.

"Similarly, the ministry has also decided to send blankets and warm clothes stored by the government for distribution in the affected districts," he added. 


The ministry will distribute the materials to the victims in coordination with the local disaster management committees, he said.


As of now, over 11 people have died in various districts in tarai due to cold. Majority of the schools have remained closed since several days due to the sharp increase in the cold.
