KATHMANDU, Nov 21: The government is preparing to distribute 'Poor Identity Card' to the people living under the poverty line in 25 districts from the second week of coming December.
Govt-issued ID cards can be used for voting
Minister for Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation, Hridayaram Thani said that preparation was underway to distribute the ID cards prepared by Poor Households Support Coordination Board from second week of December.
He said, "A cabinet-level decision would soon be made for the same." The government has selected Jumla, Humla, Mugu, Bhojpur, Khotang, Siraha, Sindhuli, Ramechhap, Rautahat, Gorkha, Tanahun, Baglung, Bajura, Bajhang, Gorkha, Arghakhanchi, Pyuthan, Rolpa, Rukum, Bardiya, Jajarkot, Dolpa, Kalikot, Kailali and Kapilvastu districts in the first phase for the same.
The Board had found 336,418 poor households in a survey of 1,240,350 households in those districts.
Minister Thani said that ID cards would be distributed to the poor people of the remaining 50 districts in the second phase to be completed next year. RSS
