According to the Ministry of Health (MoH), the council will be given authority to monitor, evaluate and certify health institutions and also recommend action against substandard institutions.

Health Minister Gagan Thapa said that the council would periodically monitor the health services in government and private health institutions and certify the grades as per the quality of the services. The cabinet meeting held on Tuesday approved the proposal of the MoH to set up the council. “A committee has been formed to develop the law and policy for the establishment of the council,” said minister Thapa.
