KATHMANDU, May 5: The government has decided to purchase 20 million LED bulbs in a bid to save some 200 MW electricity in the country. The meeting of the Council of Ministers held Thursday took the decision to this regard.

Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has planned to distribute the LED bulbs. An agreement reached during the meeting of the Energy Secretaries from Nepal and India early this year had paved way for the Energy Ministry to purchase the bulbs from the government company of India.
The proposal was forwarded to the Cabinet three months back. The proposal was forwarded to the Council of Ministers with the approval from the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs and the Finance Ministry, said Energy Minister Janardan Sharma.
