The migrant workers complained to Minister Shrestha that many foreign employers dismissed Nepali workers from their jobs after the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Similarly, a number of foreign employers even refused to clear their outstanding dues citing COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, a large number of migrant workers suffering from various diseases had to collect funds to return home.
The migrant workers said the situation of those who entered the foreign lands illegally is even worse. According to them, house maids are paid only the minimum salaries and they are often subjected to physical abuse.
