KATHMANDU, April 7: A delegation from Nepal-India Chambers of Commerce and Industry (NICCI) led by Officiating President of NICCI, Sunil KC, along with Vice President Saibal Ghosh, Director General Keshab Man Singh, and Deputy Director Marshal Rathour paid a courtesy call on Arjun Prasad Pokharel, Secretary at the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies on Wednesday.

On the occasion, Officiating President of NICCI, Sunil KC informed Secretary Pokharel about the Intellectual Property Right (IPR), an issue being raised by NICCI and Nepali business fraternity for over a decade. KC said the violation of IPR has especially affected the Indian and multinational companies operational in Nepal. “The government has prioritized foreign direct investment (FDI) in Nepal. But unless the issues related to IPR are resolved, it’s going to be very difficult to bring FDI into Nepal,” said KC.

Similarly, Secretary Pokharel thanked NICCI for raising the issue, calling it very relevant. Secretary Pokharel also informed the NICCI delegation that the ministry has already prepared a draft of the IPR Act and sent it to the Ministry of Law for their needful legal inputs.
