KATHMANDU, Nov 10: The government is looking forward to using the satellite technology to collect necessary information of the people residing in Kalapani, Lipulek and Limpiyadhura for the 12th National Population and Household Census. The population census commences across the nation starting Thursday.

The government of Nepal has issued a new map covering the areas including Kalapani, Limpiyadhura and Lipulek. However, these areas have currently been occupied by Indian troops.

Organizing a press meet on Wednesday, the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) has said the government is holding talks with the Indian authorities to carry out the population census of the region. According to the CBS, the authority has been considering using satellite means to take the data of households residing in the region.

This time, the CBS is using the digitized system to collect the data of households in six municipalities in Kathmandu district including the Kathmandu Metropolitan City. The data collection of Kathmandu is targeted to be accomplished by November 25.

The CBS said that it has already prepared listings of all the households and family members in its first phase work. It is mobilizing 40,000 enumerators and 8,500 supervisors to collect details of every Nepali.

According to the CBS, it has installed provincial population census offices in all seven provinces, 87 district-based offices and 349 local level offices to collect necessary information. An online census is being conducted to collect information of the officials working in Nepali diplomatic offices abroad.
