KATHMANDU, Sept 25: Bishnu Poudel, Deputy General Secretary of the main opposition party CPN-UML and former finance minister has accused the government of unnecessarily halting the construction work of Gautam Buddha International Airport.

Speaking at the inauguration program of the Industry Trade Association’s office in Bhairahawa, Pouel said that permissions are required to continue the second stage of the airport construction. He also urged the government to manage the budget to move the construction work ahead and called on the local citizens to put pressure on the government.

“The Asian Development Bank has prepared Rs 70 million of investment to move the second phase of the construction work ahead. The design work has also been completed. Any kind of hassle from the government that will delay the construction process will not be acceptable to us,” he said.

“There is a need to put pressure on the government to continue the second phase of the work in the second international airport of the country. We will not let the construction stop,” he said.

Furthermore, Poudel claimed that he had managed the budget during his tenure as the finance minister to make his home Rupandehi the most unique district in the country. He also expressed his disappointment over the government’s decision to cut the budget for the upgrade of the Siddartha Highway.
