Tamsaling Joint Struggle Committee (TJSC) however ignored government’s call for dialogue and did not attend the meeting. TJSC is running protest programs accusing government of not implementing past agreements.
Government has formed a task force, headed by under-secretary Bishnu Prasad Nepal, to study the possible implementation of the agreements.
“The government is committed to implement the agreements,” Chemjong said after the talks. “I assure you of implementing them within a week after the report is submitted.”
Meanwhile, Raj Kumar Lekhi, the co-ordinator of Tharuhat Struggle Committee, warned of nationwide protest in case of government’s failure to do so within the month of Shrawan.
“On August 7, we will organize a rally to submit a memorandum to the prime minister,” he said. “If government do not meet its words within this month, we will organize a national meeting of all committee and launch an agitation.”
Responding to Lekhi, Minister Chemjong said: “Such situation will not come.”
