Officials said the Department of Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Protection (DoCSCP), collected the amount during the joint-market monitoring as of Monday. The inspection was launched in mid-September.
Of 496 outlets that the DoCSCP cross-checked during the period, 261 firms faced action from the market regulator. Most of the guilty firms were found cheating consumers by charging exorbitant prices and selling goods without rendering invoices. Similarly, many others were selling the food items that had crossed expiry dates.
