KATHMANDU, Sept 27: The government has agreed to take action against those involved in recent attacks on doctors and health workers in various parts of the country in accordance with the Security of the Health Workers and Health Organizations Act, 2066.
Doctors had started fresh protests on Tuesday following attacks on health workers at Manipal Teaching Hospital, Pokhara and other places.
During a discussion held at the Ministry of Home Affairs on Tuesday, all stakeholders agreed to keep a complaint box in every health institution for complaints about mistreatment of patients and to publish a notice about the action that will be taken if the people try to take the law into their own hands.
Home ministry sources said that they also agreed to take action in accordance with the law if any act of vandalism or mistreatment of doctors occurs.
Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Narayankaji Shrestha, Health Minister Mohan Basnet, representatives of Nepal Medical Council, doctors’ association, nursing association and other stakeholders were present during the meeting.
