Govt allocated fund to contain COVID-19 largely remain unused due to massive fall in infection rate

KATHMANDU, Feb 19: The state’s expenses to contain the coronavirus declined heavily after a notable fall in the cases of the infected persons in recent days.

According to the records with the Financial Comptroller General Office, the government spent only Rs 739,000 under the heading in the first six months of the current fiscal year. The government allocated a total budget of Rs 15.47 billion for this purpose for the fiscal year 2022/23.

Ever since the onset of COVID-19 pandemic in the fiscal year 2019/20, the government has allocated Rs 74.56 billion to contain the virus. As of now, the government has spent only Rs 37.38 billion.

So far, more than 12,000 people have lost their lives due to COVID-19 in the country. Recently, the daily infection rate has fallen as low as below five people daily.
